Island Health is hiring a Community Speech Pathologist on Vancouver Island. As the Speech Language Pathologist, you are responsible for following policy and procedures to deliver the Island Health Speech Program to preschool children and their families. This includes assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children’s communication disorders in order to promote the social, physical and psychological well-being of the child. You will determine whether speech/language therapy is indicated and, in consultation with the parents and team, select the most appropriate therapeutic approach. Your role includes the provision of consultation and educational services to professionals, agencies and the general public. This full-time position is based in Nanaimo. Qualifications You are a graduate from a university of recognized standing with a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. Along with your current registration with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia (CSHHPBC), you also have two years’ experience working with children who have communication challenges and disorders. You have the ability to operate and interpret results from specialized diagnostic equipment and have sound judgement in diagnosing and prescribing therapeutic treatments.
