The Occupational Therapist will work in an Aboriginal hub as a member of SOTCS’s Early Years Program (ECD) team, providing services to Indigenous children (birth to age 6) living in Burnaby, New Westminster and the Tri- Cities. Services are provided during registered and drop-in ECD programs, home visits with Aboriginal IDP or SCD consultants and at preschools or daycares.
REPORTS TO: Aboriginal Supported Child Development Program Manager and Executive Director
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts OT assessments.
- Provides individual and group occupational therapy sessions.
- Prepare OT reports on children served, if needed.
- Participate in the development of Family Support Plans if needed.
- Maintain an appropriate record and information system. Prepare ASI-EY program quarterly and annual reports and provide accurate data when needed. Ensure that accurate program and client records are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority. Ensure that all pertinent registration requirements and documentation is complete.
- Promote and support traditional cultural teachings and practice for our families, agency, and community.
- Practice holistic, strength based principles.
- Participate/Co-Facilitate Parent Child Program (Hasé) on Saturdays, 3 times a year for 8 weeks to increase parents’ knowledge of children’s normal growth and developmental milestones.
- Be a resource person to parents and staff.
Education and Experience
- Recognized degree in Rehabilitation Medicine (OT) or Occupational Therapy
- Membership with Canadian Association of Occupational Therapy
- Previous pediatric experience essential
- Ability to work without clinical supervision
- Direct program delivery experience in the community social service sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of family centered care, early intervention child development, and community-based programs.

- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal communities, organizations, and service providers within Burnaby, New Westminster, and the Tri-Cities.
- Reliable transportation and current and valid BC driver’s License and willing to obtain business insurance and liability coverage.
- Driver’s Abstract required.
- Criminal records check required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time position, 35 hrs. per week during the contract year from April 1 – March 31.
