Key Worker

Program: Child and Family Services
Pay Rate: Grid Level 14P ($38.68-$47.20)
Hours of work: 37.5 hrs. per week (Flexible, including evenings and weekends)
Closing date: Until filled
Additional Details: Municipal Pension Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group-Life, AD&D, Long-Term Disability, paid sick and vacation time. Portability available for unionized employees from similar organizations.
Nature of Position
The Key Worker, also known as the Clinician, is a vital support for families with children and youth affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and related Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions (CDBC). They serve as a central point of contact, offering guidance and assistance across various services and systems, including education, social services, and healthcare. Their role involves providing direct support to families, organizing support groups, and advocating for families within the community. The Key Worker may work with families with or without an official diagnosis and can assist families in the assessment process
Required Abilities

Collaborate with regional health teams to identify children and adolescents with FASD and similar developmental behavioural conditions.

Follow up on referrals by interviewing parents and conducting home visits.

Assist families in understanding and implementing assessment recommendations.

Provide empowerment, resources, and information to parents.

Educate families about available local, regional, and national services and resources.

Aid families in applying for relevant services and financial support.

Serve as the main liaison between families and various support services.

Develop and implement joint plans involving professionals and agencies to support families.

Coordinate information sharing between professionals and ensure everyone is updated on the child's development.

Facilitate regular review and updating of service plans, offering support during crises and transitions.

Provide flexible education and strategies related to FASD and similar conditions.

Assist families in advocating for their children's needs.

Organize group experiences, including parent-to-parent support groups.

Maintain accurate client records and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulations.

Track program outcomes and engage in action planning to support improvement.

Conduct satisfaction surveys with families and act on feedback received.

Ensure program operations meet regulatory standards and organizational goals.

Develop and maintain program-specific instructions and procedures.

Participate in public education events and promote community awareness of the program.

Stay updated on child development and community living sector through training and active participation.

Promote diversity and respect for cultural diversity in interactions with clients and colleagues.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in social work, child and youth care, or related field

2 years of experience working with families affected by FASD
-
Specialized training in child development and family-centered care
