Description
In accordance with the mission, vision, values and strategic direction of the Island Health, patient & staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at Island Health; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the team manager and under a co-leadership structure with communication assistance for youth and adults (CAYA) and working under the direction of the speech language pathologist, implements rehabilitative treatment plans and client activities by administering routine procedures, documenting client progress, preparing appropriate client materials/activities, maintaining augmentative communication and other related equipment, and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
Travel will be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
Education, Training and Experience:
- Completion of a formal Speech-Pathology Assistant Program at a recognized post-secondary institution plus one year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency with basic AAC technology and AAC software, specifically Boardmaker
- Valid BC drivers license and operational motor vehicle
Skills And Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical abilities to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to provide client instruction under guidance of a Speech-Language Pathologist.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related work equipment, including but not limited to computers, digital cameras, printers, and laminators.
