Position Summary:

Reporting to the Department Leader Physiotherapy, this position is responsible for all aspects of caseload management by utilizing clinically accepted procedures to assess, plan and carry out physiotherapy programs either directly or through training caregivers and community to reach each client's maximum potential.

The objective of this position is to provide home, community and centre based services to a wide range of children birth to 19. This position works as part of an interdisciplinary team, working collaboratively with other professionals to determine the best array and intensity of services based on goals of the family.

Typical Functions and Responsibilities:

  •  In accordance with a family centred model, screen, assess and evaluate the needs of families and clients aged 0-19 years.
  • Provide intervention and/or consultation in centre, home and community settings for all clients requesting PT services. Provide home programs when required.  Evaluate treatment progress regularly.
  • Participate as a member of an integrated early intervention team and school age team by working collaboratively with other professionals to determine the best array and intensity of services based on the stated goal of the family or caregiver.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of individual plans for children that reflect the choices and priorities identified by their families.
  • Constructs basic splints, designs adaptive equipment and submits requests for construction of such equipment to the centre aid, technician, or outside agency. Advises family, caregivers on choosing and ordering appropriate equipment.
  • Research additional resources available and have knowledge of agencies and programs in the community to make referrals to when appropriate.
  • Attend FCSP meetings or provide information to support family goals. Work cooperatively as team member with parents, service providers, staff and other professionals.
  • Write reports based on information obtained during sessions to share with families and centre staff involved with child. Communicate report information to families.  Follow appropriate guidelines for report writing, therapy notes, ECR documentation and confidentiality as per the FVCDC Policy & Procedure manual.
  • Conduct groups, training and information sessions, and workshops to educate community, parents and professionals when deemed appropriate.
  • Actively participate in department, team and staff meetings.
  • Maintain professional knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Physiotherapy Department.

Job Qualifications:

  • A Degree in Physiotherapy from an approved university program
  • Current registration with the College of Physical Therapists of BC
  • Preference given to therapists with experience in paediatrics

Skills & Abilities:

  • Current full registration with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia (CPTBC).
  • Knowledge of physiotherapy standardized tests, measures, use of equipment and related techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Good inter-personal skills to establish rapport with families, clients and staff.
  • Be willing to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities and adjust to unexpected events.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Have access to a vehicle.
  • Be willing and able to work in outreach centres as required.
