The Role
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs to address the communication skills of pre-school and school aged children in collaboration with their families.
Key Impact Areas
- Assesses and evaluates children’s physical abilities using standardized assessment tools and non-standardized assessment including observation, interview and review of medical and developmental reports.
- Plans and develops goals for speech and language services in consultation with the family and based on the assessment results and the priorities of the family.
- Provides direct therapy services to individuals and groups of children and their families to implement speech and language programs based on established goals.
- Provides instruction, guidance and advice to families, childcare programs and other service providers on implementation of components of the speech and language program.
- Recommends adaptive equipment and provide specialized therapy services as needed to meet the child’s therapeutic needs. Refers families to other community services and professionals as needed.
- Liaises with school teams, educators, community service providers, and other professionals to ensure coordinated and consistent therapies and services. Participates in interdisciplinary team and family assessment, planning, direct services and transition planning related to individual child and family services.
- Maintains related records and produces reports as required.
- Provides consultative and education services to families, caregivers, childcare providers, other service providers and the general public.
What you will bring
- The Speech-Language Pathologist will have a master’s degree in speech and language therapy with pediatric training and appropriate provincial licensing.
- The Speech-Language Pathologist will have at least two (2) years of pediatric clinical experience.
- The Speech-Language Pathologist will have some experience in a community-based early intervention program and supporting school age children.
- Understands and can work effectively with young children and their families to provide therapy and consultation services.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, instructional, written and oral skills, and will be a committed team member.
Other Job Requirements
- May work with clients at a variety of locations.
- Must have appropriate car insurance coverage when using personal vehicle on agency business.
